Salesforce CEO: There Has to Be Some AI Regulation

Image
Key Takeaways Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff said in an interview with CNBC that there has to be AI regulation . He specifically pointed to instances of AI models becoming “suicide coaches” for kids as a clear indicator that something needs to be done . Benioff’s remarks fly in the face of a tech industry that views regulation as a four-letter word . Marc Benioff is speaking out about AI, with the Salesforce CEO saying in an interview that “there has to be some regulation” in regard to the world-changing technology. AI has been evolving at break-neck speeds over the last few years, with a seemingly endless supply of funding from the big tech firms of the world. As a result, some unsettling use cases have arisen, largely due to a lack of regulation. Hopefully that changes soon, though, with even the head of the largest CRM in the world — with a vast selection of AI features to boot — calling for it to be regulated more substantially. Benioff: There Has to Be ...

McDonald’s Comes Under Fire for Making Burgers the Size of Macarons

Image
Inflation and rising food costs have hit us all pretty hard these past few years, but fast food prices and portions have gotten particularly crazy. While prices seem to be going up every other month at most fast food joints, menu items appear to be shrinking, and in some parts of the world, people are finally taking a stand. In China, the topic “McDonald’s hamburgers and macarons”(麥當勞漢堡馬卡龍) has been trending on social media, with many accusing the fast food giant of raising costs while shrinking its burgers. Photos of tiny burgers comparable to macarons have been doing the rounds online, attracting the ire of budget-conscious eaters. This “McDonald’s hamburgers and macarons” topic originated from a post on social media by a mainland Chinese netizen who expressed dissatisfaction with the McDonald’s burger he bought, saying it was significantly smaller than expected, almost the size of a macaron. Since then, others have been showing off their own purchases, adding fuel to the fire. ...

Japan’s ‘Most Terrifying Staircase’ Looks More Like a Concrete Ladder

Image
Carved into a 10-meter-high river embankment in the Kanayamacho district of Gero Town, Japan’s ‘most terrifying staircase’ has been getting a lot of attention on social media, after photos of it were shared by an amateur photographer. From certain angles, the staircase looks almost vertical, with steps so narrow that you can barely step on them, and only a rusty handrail for support. According to recent news reports, the staircase dates back to the early 1960s, when local authorities decided to build a concrete embankment to protect the district against floods. The staircase was added after locals complained that there was no way for them to reach the riverbank to fish in the Maze River. The steepness of the staircase is due primarily to the tread-to-riser ratio of 1 to 1, compared to the standard 2 to 1. Although an official reason for this ratio hasn’t been given by authorities, it is believed that the design was meant to keep costs as low as possible. Japanese efficiency, what ca...
